Awarded design for a logotype of the newly founded Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) in The Hague.
The logo with almost pictorial character symbolizes the universal gesture for “stop”. It is made up of a handprint —representing mankind— and the drawing of a retort —representing chemistry. The retort is tilted upside down and thus “deactivated”. Besides the call to action character of the sign, the open hand also alludes to keywords like international cooperation and peacefulness.
